Frequently Asked Questions
Will this scratch my non-stick pan?
No. The Cook's Edge Press has a smooth, polished base that won't damage non-stick, stainless steel, cast iron, or carbon steel cookware. We recommend using it on medium to medium-high heat and avoiding dragging or sliding the press across the surface—just lift and place.
Does the handle get hot?
The handle will warm up during extended use (especially on high heat or in the oven), but stainless steel's low thermal conductivity means it heats slowly. For stovetop use under 5-10 minutes, most people can handle it bare-handed. For longer cooking times or oven use above 200°C, we recommend using a kitchen towel or heat-resistant glove.
Can I use this on my BBQ or grill?
Absolutely. The press is oven and BBQ safe to over 300°C. It's perfect for grilling fish, smashing burgers on a flat-top, or keeping bacon flat on the grill. Just remember to use heat protection when handling it after high-heat use.
How do I clean it?
Dishwasher safe, but hand washing is easy too. Just wash with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly. The single-piece construction means there are no crevices where food can hide. For stubborn residue, use a non-abrasive scrubber or Bar Keeper's Friend.
What's the difference between the round and rectangular models?
The round model (160mm diameter, 1.52kg) is designed to fit standard fry pans and is ideal for fish fillets, individual steaks, and 2-3 burger patties. The rectangular model (100×200mm, 1.72kg) offers more surface coverage for griddles, planchas, and cooking multiple items at once (like a row of bacon or 4+ burger patties). Both deliver the same professional results—it's just a matter of your cooking style and equipment.
Do the PVD finishes (Black, Gold) affect performance?
No. The PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coating is extremely thin (microns) and doesn't impact heat transfer, weight distribution, or cooking performance. It's purely aesthetic—and incredibly durable. The coating is harder than the steel itself and won't chip, peel, or fade with normal use.
Is this really worth it?
We get it - it's not a cheap kitchen gadget. But consider this: most "bacon presses" are lightweight cast iron or aluminium with plastic handles that melt or break within a year. Ours is precision-machined from a single block of marine-grade stainless steel, designed in Australia, and backed by a 3-year warranty. It will outlast your pans, your knives, and probably your stove. If you cook bacon, fish, or burgers even once a week, the difference in results pays for itself in saved ingredients and better meals. Plus, it's one of those tools that just makes you feel like a better cook every time you use it.
